March 2022. I watched gold hit $2,070/ounce. I thought: “Gold is a safe haven.” So I poured money in. Two weeks later, gold dropped 10%. I panicked. Sold everything. Lost nearly $2,000. Now I hear gold might fall to $3,500 by end of 2026, and I don’t panic anymore. I just remember the most expensive lesson I ever learned: the market doesn’t care if you’re scared or greedy — it only follows its own logic.
📌 What’s happening
- Gold prices have dropped sharply this past week, surprising many investors
- Some analysts predict gold could fall to $3,500/ounce by end of 2026
- This price is roughly 15-20% lower than recent peaks (depending on timing)
- Vietnamese investors are uncertain: hold, sell, or buy more?

What Ho Alva sees
In 2022, I lost money because I believed “gold is a safe haven” without understanding the context. Safe compared to what? For how long? For whom? I didn’t ask. I just listened, then bought. When gold dropped, I realized: no asset is “safe” if you don’t understand why you’re holding it.
Now hearing predictions of gold falling to $3,500/ounce, I don’t think “right or wrong.” I think: “If gold really drops to $3,500, what will I do? Do I have a plan? Or will I wait until it happens and panic again?”
Many women ask me if they should buy gold. I ask back: “How long do you plan to hold? Do you understand why gold appreciates? Do you have separate emergency funds?” Most answers are “not sure.” That’s when I know — she’s not ready to invest in gold. She’s seeking a feeling of safety, not an investment strategy.
🔍 What number matters more
$3,500 sounds big. But the number I pay more attention to is: time. End of 2026 — that’s nearly 2 years away. If this forecast is correct, gold will decline gradually, not collapse immediately. What does that mean? It means you have time. Time to observe. Time to learn. Time to build a plan.
But most people don’t use that time to prepare. They use it to worry. Worry until gold actually drops, then panic sell. Or worry until gold rises again, then buy from FOMO. Both lose.
I once…
November 2022. VN-Index fell to 911 points. Down over 40% from peak. My portfolio evaporated. I had no money left to “buy the dip” like everyone advised. I just sat there. Numb.
That’s when I learned: the market doesn’t reward those who predict correctly — it rewards those who have a plan. Those who have cash when the market crashes. Those who have discipline when the market goes crazy. Those who sleep soundly when everyone panics.
Now if gold really falls to $3,500, I won’t panic. Not because I’m good at predicting. But because I already have a plan for gold going up, going down, and moving sideways. I know what I’ll do. I know what I won’t do.
What about you? Do you have a plan? Or are you waiting for the market to decide for you?
